Upcoming Projects

I). Behavioural Study of Indian Spotted Deer in Distressed Environments

Overview: The Indian Spotted Deer (Axis axis), or chital, faces challenges from habitat degradation, human encroachment, and land use changes. This GGCC project investigates their behaviour in a distressed 500-acre landscape at the foothills of Kotagiri, Tamil Nadu, to provide conservation insights and restoration strategies.

Objectives:

  • Examine behavioural responses to environmental stress.
  • Analyse feeding, grooming, anti-predator, and resting patterns.
  • Study herd dynamics, sex-based behavioural differences, and environmental impacts.
  • Develop conservation strategies for habitat management.

Methodology

  • Focal Sampling: Observing individual behaviours across different times of the day.
  • Behavioural Categories: Herd dynamics, feeding, social interactions, anti-predator responses, stress indicators, and aggression.
  • Data Analysis: Statistical tools to correlate behaviours with environmental factors.

Expected Outcomes

  • Insights into adaptive behaviour under stress.
  • Understanding of herd dynamics and behaviour.
  • Recommendations for habitat restoration and management.
  • Development of a standard protocol for conducting similar studies on other species in the future.

Conservation Impact This study will guide habitat restoration efforts, mitigate human-wildlife conflicts, and promote ecological balance in the Kotagiri region. It aims to ensure the well-being of Axis axis in distressed environments while establishing methodologies to support broader conservation initiatives.

II). Sustainable Conservation Outreach Program for Corporate Sector

Overview: The Sustainable Conservation Outreach Program engages corporate employees in weekend conservation activities, promoting biodiversity awareness and mental well-being. This initiative bridges corporate involvement with conservation, addressing biodiversity loss in India through education, hands-on projects, and wellness activities.

Objectives :

  • Educate corporate professionals on biodiversity and conservation.
  • Generate sustainable income to support GGCC’s initiatives.
  • Integrate scientific knowledge with practical conservation efforts.
  • Enhance employee well-being through nature-based activities.
  • Encourage CSR engagement in environmental efforts.

Activities :

  • Conservation workshops and hands-on projects.
  • Biodiversity surveys, reforestation, and ecosystem monitoring.
  • Stress-relief nature walks and interactive sessions.
  • Corporate collaboration in sustainable practices.

Outcomes :

  • Increased corporate participation in conservation.
  • Financial support for GGCC’s conservation initiatives.
  • Improved mental well-being for participants.
  • Practical knowledge transfer in ecology and genetics.
  • Strengthened biodiversity conservation in Tamil Nadu.

Join us in creating a sustainable future by connecting people, nature, and conservation science!

III). Nature School Initiative

Fostering a Generation Bonded with Nature

Welcome to the Nature School Initiative by GGCC – an innovative program designed to connect the next generation with the wonders of nature. This initiative aims to educate and inspire children and young adults to build a lifelong bond with the environment while fostering a sense of responsibility and action towards conservation.

Key Features of the Nature School Initiative:

1. Interactive Learning :

  • Tailored syllabi for all age groups focusing on local biodiversity, sustainable practices, and ecological principles.
  • Fun and engaging activities like crafts, storytelling, and hands-on nature exploration.

2. Native Plant Nursery:

  • A living classroom where children can learn about planting, nurturing, and conserving native species.
  • Opportunities to study and understand the importance of native plants in local ecosystems.

3. Man-Made Forest:

  • A collaborative project where children plant and grow a forest using native species.
  • This forest will serve as a long-term symbol of conservation and a practical learning site for future generations.

4. Community Engagement:

  • Empowering children to become conservation ambassadors through public awareness campaigns, rallies, and events.
  • Activities like clean-up drives and biodiversity workshops to involve the broader community.

5. Creative Crafts:

  • Integrating art with nature, including leaf art, birdhouse building, and recycling projects to encourage creativity and ecological awareness.

Join Us in Making a Difference:

  • Partners and Donors: Help us bring this vision to life by contributing resources or funding.
  • Schools and Communities: Collaborate with us to offer this program to children in your area.
  • Volunteers: Be part of our journey by supporting workshops, campaigns, and forest creation.

Together, we can nurture a generation that loves, respects and protects nature. Let’s create a greener future for everyone!

IV). Bird Surveys: A Step Towards Sustainable Conservation

Birds as Environmental Indicators Birds are vital indicators of environmental health, reflecting changes in habitats and ecosystems. Though conducted sporadically, Tamil Nadu’s bird surveys highlight the region’s rich avian diversity. To fill the gaps and establish a comprehensive approach, Global Green Conservation Connect (GGCC) is launching a district-focused bird survey initiative.

A Collaborative Approach GGCC will partner with colleges and universities in Tamil Nadu to integrate bird surveys into students’ academic journeys. Life science departments will collaborate with GGCC, offering internships where students contribute to meaningful conservation work while fulfilling their project thesis requirements. This dual-benefit initiative bridges education and conservation.

Survey Highlights

  • Study Area Focus: Begin with a pilot district known for its biodiversity.
  • Systematic Surveys: Use proven methodologies like point counts and transects for accurate data collection.
  • Tech Integration: Employ tools like GIS mapping and mobile apps for efficient data recording.

Student and Community Involvement Students will gain hands-on experience in wildlife research, enhancing their skills and contributing to a database of bird diversity. Local communities will be engaged through workshops and awareness programs, fostering a collective conservation ethic.

Impact and Future Goals This project aims to create a replicable model for sustainable bird surveys across Tamil Nadu. Outcomes include:

  • A baseline database of bird species.
  • Trained students equipped with field and analytical skills.
  • Informed communities actively participating in conservation.

Looking ahead, GGCC plans to expand these surveys statewide, publish findings for global awareness, and integrate citizen science for ongoing monitoring. Together, we can pave the way for innovative and sustainable nature conservation efforts.

Join Us Be a part of this transformative journey. Whether you’re a student, educator, or conservation enthusiast, GGCC welcomes you to contribute to our bird survey project and make a lasting impact on Tamil Nadu’s biodiversity.
